Railways of Tibet
Tibet has one of the most advanced engineered railways in the World and is a great way to see some of the most beautiful views in the World as well. The Tibetan or Lhasa railway is also known as the Qinghai-Tibet railway which has daily departures from Beijing to Lhasa. The journey from Beijing to Lhasa takes approximately 48 hours and reaches heights as high as 5,072 meters above sea level, making it the highest railway in the World. With the long train ride the Lhasa railway also provides sleeping cars for those who wish a more comfortable sleep.
The Tibetan railway provides some beautiful panoramic views for passengers and makes stops along its route for passengers to have breaks and enjoy the views. One of the stops is at the Tanggula Mountain railway station which is also the highest railway station in the world at 5,068 meters above sea level. The Qinghai-Tibet railway is not only a great way to travel in Tibet but also is a tourist attraction in itself. The train and carriages themselves are great technological advances in railway history. If you would like to see some of the most beautiful mountain views in the World and enjoy a great train ride, the Qinghai-Tibetan railway is the way to go. It has made some of the more difficult regions in Tibet more accessible than in the past. In past years the journey through Tibet would have been more difficult and only available to those who were experienced enough to make the journey; but now the Tibetan railway makes travel to Tibet available for everyone.
